Sound Output Randomly Cuts Out

Hi

Occassionally when editing via Pro Tools a rig sound output will randomly mute out. I can get it back by simply reselcting the rig or moving up one rig and back. Is this something to be concerned with?

yes, it could be a bad unit. What sample rate are you using? Does this only happen in Pro Tools or also in Standalone?

Sure it's not the gate settings on the Amp? Does it happen while recording or just when editing?

It seems to happen when I'm editing an effects parameter via the pro tools interface, for instance, today I was adjusting delay feedback in the dynamic delay, hit a note and while adjusting and it cut out. Seems to happen when I have sound coming through while tweaking something, almost like the software doesn't like having a volume load while at the same time adjusting effects parameters, if that makes sense.

Do you have anything connected to the MIDI inputs?

So if you record hitting one note, does it sustain until naturally fading out and if so does it sound exactly the same when played back; that is with no tweaking of any parameters?

Do the same thing with 11R in standalone mode and does it still cut out?

I do have a POD HD500 connected to the midi input when this happens.

It may be irrelevant here, but I've had the sound disappear due to a poor connection between the USB cable from the rack to the computer. The cable end and rack socket don't seem to be that good a fit on mine, and it seems that vibration can sometimes cause a poor contact. It's perhaps possible that certain frequencies or vibrations might cause the contact to come and go?

Maybe not high on the list of possibilities, but easy enough to try.

Good luck tracking it down. Intermittent faults are a pain.

It might be worth it to see if you can still reproduce it without anything pluged in the MIDI sockets.

Also, when the sound goes explore your rig to see if there anything that can explain it : amp output set to -24db, noise gate full up, etc...

The idea is to rule out any garbage MIDI signal that could trip a function in the 11r. I myself have experienced something similar when changing patches through a MIDI controller, but it's very random and I haven't had the chance to nail it down just yet.
