processor upgrade or what?

My powermac G4 400 Mhz, AGP has reached its limits with PT 6.4 (DIGI001) and OSX 10.3.4.(around 800 MB RAM)

In 2000 digidesign didn´t test processor upgrade cards and even warrened about them.
Does anybody know what the odds are today?
If it works today should I then go for the new Sonnet ST duet (ca.2 X 1,25 G) or just a single processor?
Is DIGI 001 better working on the dual?
What procceser card?

Other suggestions..?

I think most people are having good luck with those nowadays. I've heard good things about Sonnet and I know a friend of mine uses a 1 GHz OWC upgrade every day without any problems.

...I just can't wait for the eventual dual 1.5 MDD upgrades myself.

your powerMac most certainly will NOT work with a Dual CUP Upgrade.
Only GigabitEthernet / Digitial Audio or above will work

this is true for ALL other DUAL CPU upgrades.

singles CPUs however will work just fine.

my sonnet 1.2 GHz works in my G4/AGP for 8 Months now perfectly.

yeah, the sonnet doesn't look compatible for dual.

Well they tell you to check if you have the right G4 AGP (see sonnet site - some will work) and I checked and allthough I´m not totally sure it seems like my mac is one of the G4 that is compatible. But it seems like the OWC single processor is a cheap (allmost halfprice of the ST duet, atleast When you live in Denmark(and it was a fair game last night against Sweden!)) and well working solution so I´ll stick to that.

Right, sorry, I meant that I imagine they'll be available in the fairly near future. I too have the dual 867 and while I'm not really hurtin' for horsepower too much yet, once dual 1.5s for MDD are out for a while they'll get cheap enough to make sense. Like adding an HD process card for $500...

How many tracks+Plugins etc and at waht buffer size CPU usage limit can your Mac handle?

Personally i could really use some more grunt...also some more Bus's in PT would be noce but what are you gonna do...

What benifits would this afford and which one is best to get.

Im not that well informed when it comes to technical computer stuff, but im learnig fast and ive decided to learn more about it because when your whole studio revolves arond a computer, you dont want to have to worry about it, ie when you run into a problem, its very handy to know how to solve it.(enough said)
