Default A/D front end??

Wassup digians

Im doing hip-hop here, mostly... so i basically only go as hi as 48K when recordin/trackin in PT from our 002(sometimes). I use mostly samples(samplers, keyboards) for instruments and have an AT 4033a mic and no pre.

I kno u guys r gonna say...."get a pre amp, 1st!"

tis is basically what Im asking, along with best A/D - together or seperate.

We monitor now thru a Benchmark DAC-1 and using Mackie HR824's along w/ Yamaha NS-10's.

so.....

What do u guys/gals suggest for best front end(Mic Pre and or A/D)?

o yeah... I only need as many as 2-channels.

thnkx

-apogee mini-me
-apogee rossetta 200 (which has no real preamp)
-apogee trak2 (sooooooooooo expensive)

with the mini me you would have 3 improvments:
-preamp
-converters (a/d)
-a stable clock (very important)

the benchmark now also have a a/d but i don't know how that clock is.
the apogee is still up there of best clocks

bad clock = JITTER which you would like to avoid
read the LE vs TDM topic 4 pages long already

hey,

http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/trak2.php

it didn't sell well because it was too expensive.
So they came up with it's little brother : mini-me

the trak2 had an amazing preamp
the same guys who designed the trak2 also designed the audio path from the mini-me
the trak 2 is better than the mini-me however
converters are better
dynamic range in excess of 117 dB
there are menus to fiddle thru...
direct connection with protools TDM....

i don't know if you can still find it...
but together with the mini-me it is the only preamp + a/d system from apogee in one box
they sell a preamp mini only version now also to go into a rossetta 200 for example
cheers..

While I realize you have one of the best DA's available, it might be worth considering the Universal Audio 2192.
It's the sleeper of AD/DA units.
