Default Surround panner: just a joystick?

Hi,

I'm about to buy a D-CONTROL ES and have serious doubt about the surround panner option. How good is it? I know that writing automation with a mouse is not the best thing, but 5 thousand dollars sounds a little too much for a joystick. Please let me know your impressions on this tool.

Thanks

Not only can you pan with the 2 joysticks, but it also has a touchscreen as well. And, you can also assign any 2 parameters from a channel to the x/y axis to do some pretty creative sound design.

The surround panner is one of the best features on my d-control... Being able to automate multiple parameters using your finger is 1.) a lot of fun, and 2.) precise. As well, the joysticks are very responsive and makes surround panning a pleasure.

Enjoy

Too bad it can't double as a "plugin" screen. Or do something besides sit there 90% of the time and eat up prime real estate.

That being said, it is a good buy for an Icon.

Now this is a brilliant idea. This expensive touch screen & encoders should be available/assignable to do other stuff. How 'bout a meter screen? Live automation controls? Man, I could think of quite a few things that could be done with that real estate. Gil?
