Default Beat Det. conform value confused by grid setting

I couldn't figure out why Beat Detective was giving me surprising results. I was region conforming to eighth notes--the guitar pattern was mostly on the quarter with occasional eighth's. Results were wrong even beyond screwing up the 1/4 or 1/8th rhythms. The hits were pushing the beat, and timing seemed to get worse throughout the piece. By chance, I thought to look at the basic grid setting in the edit window (not the setting in Beat Detective, but the regular grid setting). It was set to 1/4's. Just to try it, I switched it to 1/8's, and viola, suddenly Beat Detective gave me the results it was supposed to.

Tried to search the forum for other posts on this quickly, but didn't see anything. Is there a bug associated with this?

were notes conforming to 1/4's or 1/8's? because beats you have identified when you set the beat marker will conform too.

mmm...well, there was nothing in the audio file which I wanted at any other resolution, and I hadn't marked any anchors other than on notes which should have fallen on 1/4's or 1/8's. In other words I don't think I was asking it to do something that it wasn't designed for.

The point was that it seems wrong that the main session grid setting (outside of everything being in bars and beats) should have had any influence on the settings or performance of Beat Detective... Is that where I'm wrong? I suppose if I was viewing the session in minutes and seconds, BD wouldn't know where the beats were supposed to be. RTFM, right?

thanks for writing--any other thoughts?

OK, I see.. your GRID was set to 1/4's. Hmm... wierd. maybe I should change my grid to 1/8's and see if i like beat detective better. now remeber.. when selecting audio DO NOT be in grid mode as you have to select the entire note and if a note hits early then when ya select it in grid mode it it doesnt see the transient or first hit.
