Default Video Editing in 7.3

I'm still using 6.9 and am very happy with it.

I would really like to edit video though and 7.3 seems like it adds some great video support for working with quicktime video.

Can someone tell me how well it's working out.

I would like to be able to do frame by frame editing in PT.

Is that possible? Is it really awkward? I'm using quicktime pro and I find the copy/paste style very hit or miss.

I'd like to be able to edit video as easy as I do video right now.

I've read the "What's New in 7.3" file but I'd like to hear some real world opinions.

Thx.

It's as easy as editing audio in Pro Tools. All of the audio editing tools that you're familiar with in Pro Tools, apply to video with the exception of fades. There are no fades or disolves for video in Pro Tools.

What you want is possible and it works fine. You can´t live without it anymore after you´ve tried it. You can even include video in the region-groups wich is great for re-cuts.

So you can lock your audio to video and then move it?

Not sure I totally follow what you're asking.
But in a simple answer, yes.

I meant, using region grouping you can lock the video to audio and then move it around freely.

You can mult select and move together but no region grouping with video+audio that I'm aware of.
Even with video that has embedded audio you still have to import the audio to a separate track.
Usually when I'm working with video I'll use spot mode to move things around. (Grid mode set to TC frames)
This is where setting sync points and Snap Sync to Play, Snap Sync to TC etc comes in handy.
Of course you can region group the audio and spot to frame.
I'm sure once you really get into it you're gonna dig it.

Not to forget, you can have multiple videos in your session. That made our workflow a lot faster.

Is anyone still using Quicktime Pro for anything or is it redundant?

I don´t really need it anymore since you can resize your QT-window in PT now. You can also transcode from within PT with the ctrl-alt-option-bounce-trick in non real-time.
