Default Changing Buffersize, Protools 9

Hello,
when I try to cahnge the buffer size in Protoools 9.0.1 I get prompted that I have to restart Protools.

Which Soundcard lets you change the Buffersize while Protools is running?

I have a RME Multiface II PCIe

you must do this for all asio interfaces. the only ones you do not have to restart for are actual digidesign (avid) interfaces.

Ahh, ok , thank you for the enlightment !

Are those DIGI interfaces working better than 3rd Party Interfaces beside the buffer change thing?
I mean performance wise, can you get lower latencies or even more more CPU power ? just curious

nope. buffer has to be the same as digi interfaces. 64-128-256 etc. 48 buffer will not work as an example.

cpu power is dependant only on computer. interface plays no role here.

I think it depends upon the Digi (Avid) interface/driver combination you're comparing to which 3rd party interface/driver. And even then the comparison might be different with the same interface/driver combinations between different computer setups.

In my experience the Mackie Onyx 1640i performs far better on my laptop than my MBox2 Mini. With the Mackie I can run a 32 sample buffer when doing 24/44.1. With the MBox I can at best use a 256 buffer, and really for any stability I need to run 512 or 1024.

So from my experience I would say the ASIO interfaces/drivers work better than the Digi/Avid ones. But that would be an over-generalization. On my system with my interfaces the 3rd party are better.

Hopefully a lot of people with multiple interfaces will post here and let us know which interfaces work better on their systems. My system is listed in my signature below...
