ProTools Isn't "seeing" my 003 Rack
I am using PT9 and use a MacBook Pro with a 003 Rack (connected via firewire) and an Eleven Rack. All has been well but when I went to set up for a session today PT isn't "seeing" the 003 at all anymore. It's defaulting to the internal I/O set up (4 tracks). The "1394 Sync" light on the 003 is NOT lighting up anymore either. I went into the Hardware set-up and it's showing "0 inputs / 0 outputs" under the 003 in the hardware list.
I would appreciate any thoughts regarding fixing my problem.... Thanks..... |

Re: ProTools Isn't "seeing" my 003 Rack
I've got the same thing going on, plus power failure! Sounded similar to the issues with the 002 power harness problems, but didn't think that was an issue with the 003's.
It will turn on for a few minutes then immediately shuts down. And 1394 link light NOT on!?!? In the middle of project and desperately need answers. Crossgraded to PT9 last week. |

Re: ProTools Isn't "seeing" my 003 Rack
A few more data points. All was working fine until I disconnected my MacBook and used it with PT stand alone w/o the 003 (once disconnected it defaulted to the internal mic input). Once I reconnected the Mac via FireWire to the 003 it wouldn't sync up and failed to "see" the 003.
Also, the green light next to the FireWire inputs on the back of the 003 is lighting up and I've tried another FireWire cable. Lastly, from time to time the amber light (1394 sync) on the front of the 003 either flashes or is completely off now. Thanks in advance for any help.... |

Hey JJ if youve removed or connected the cable hot chances are the firewire chip blew.

Re: ProTools Isn't "seeing" my 003 Rack
Well you can send it to a Avid ARC. Mine blew in an 002 and replaced the FW chip myself. Got it at mouser for .39$. Then just flood soldiered it to remove old chip and replaced. Dont know the chip or location on board in the 003 series but cant imagine it would be too different. A good elect repair shop could do it for about 50$ easy. Or you could do it for .39$ and about and 1hr worth of time. Or you can send it to a Avid ARC but it will take three weeks or so and cost about 390$ if its out of warranty.

Re: ProTools Isn't "seeing" my 003 Rack
Guys, I had this problem for TWO weeks after upgrading to 8.0.4cs2, my eyes were crossing trying to find the solution and it took Digi two weeks to help me with the right answer. Unless it is truly a hardware failure issue where you have to buy a new 003 (or whatever), then this is the resolution, plain and simple. It is not a driver issue, not lack of digitally signed issue, don't mess with the advance bios (F8) when you boot up, don't touch the driver settings. The solution is power on and off in the right order - that's it. Here is the right order:
- Power on the 003 FIRST (this is the key), wait a few seconds, THEN power on the Computer. - For shutting down: Do it in reverse order - Computer first, THEN the 003. That's it! The reason is you need to get the 003 on first before Windows starts loading its drivers and running its routines so it recognizes the 003. It works every time. The above assumes only an 003 and a Computer (my example) - if you have more components (e.g., and external hard drive, etc.), go to the Documentation of PT Reference Guide, pg 31 for complete details. Here is an excerpt: To ensure that the components of your Pro Tools system communicate properly with each other, you need to start them in a particular order. Jim |

Re: ProTools Isn't "seeing" my 003 Rack
Problem solved....On the menu bar, select SETUP, PLAYBACK ENGINE, and make sure that you have Digidesign 003 selected in the CURRENT ENGINE window.
