Default PT8 on G5 Dual = PITA

what is this???

I bought PT8
did a clean install
removed all the incompatible plugs

I just cant play back most of my sessions
I get -6031 errors all the time
CPU doesnt reach 50%

PT stops playback while scrolling in the edit or mix windows

what did they sell?
or did I miss something?
Isn´t it compatible with dual G5 power macs?

this is a professional facility- we cant work like this

G5 Dual 2GHZ
OSX 10.5.6
PT 8.0 ( HD3)
2GB Ram

I have a dual 2.0 but the cards are in "incompatible" 13 slot digi chassis instead of being in a computer. Still no such harsh problems, some minor snap and pop with VI's what could be due the chassis. Mabe you should stick with 10.5.5? I have 4GB of ram.

G5 Dual 2GHz
4GB RAM
OSX 10.5.5 (clean install)
PT8.0 (HD2)

Other than the occasional bug, it's running a-ok over here.
Sorry to hear you're having troubles dude.

did you, after install 10.5., import your settings and data from the previcious system?
or did you install everything new from scratch?

I made a clone of my old system and imported the settings after installing, after this I installed PT8

You should read the thread this thread which has information about upgrading to Pro Tools 8.

First off - you should do a clean install of Leopard and Pro Tools, as we've seen numerous issues when doing an 'upgrade' from Tiger (meaning installing Leopard over Tiger). Installing over a previous version of Pro Tools is also not recommended, as we've

Second - make sure all installed plug-ins are the minimum version required:

Pro Tools Plug-In Compatibility Grid

Native Instruments has many plug-ins that are not yet compatible and will need to be uninstalled.

You should also try reducing the number of processors in the Playback Engine by 1, as many plug-ins require this to work properly in Leopard.

The General Troubleshooting thread has several other optimizations and suggestions that may help.

Reducing down to 1 processor seems to make things work smoothly, but my cpu has taken a big hit. Will there be a fix for this any time soon?

ok

I did all the suggested things tonight
1 processor seems to make things better
but the whole system feels not responsive and the timing is sloppy

new OS, new PT and a worse situation

in fact, I guess I have to go back to 10.4 / 7.4 to do my work

this is no good

Also check your display settings, I remember that things should be maxed out to work better. Also check the LE general trobleshooting page, if you have a new system there are thing you should turn off (spotlight, firewire networking etc.)

Make sure you enable Delay compensation in the playback engine, the "Timing" of your session shouldn't be effected...

the 2 CPU's did work better on PT 7.4 - I'm a little worried about upgrading our G5 PCIx Accel 2 system to Leo / PT 8

it's a 1st Gen dp 1.8 and 7.4 is working Great.

Let us know if you enable Delay Compensation, and optimize your system as stated in the Troubleshooting Sticky, if you get back to a more stable, responsive performance in PT8, similar to 7.4 (Just with less CPU headroom for RTAS)
