anyone still using FW instead of USB on PT9?
I'm wondering whether anyone is still using FW drives on PT9 with windows.
Is there any reason not to use them? I know avid says to use USB now, but do FW drives cause a problem now? I've been using an eSata G-drive with a Siig card, but have a glyph FW drive as well. Just curious. |

Re: anyone still using FW instead of USB on PT9?
I tried some playback of a 20 track session from a Firewire drive in PT9 on Windows 7. It worked fine. However, DigiTechSupport has stated that there is a problem with the Firewire stack in Windows 7 that makes it less than optimal for audio drives with PT9. It seems to be fine for audio interfaces though. I haven't done any recording tests to the Firewire drive.
I would generally stay away from things that Avid declares to be a known problem. That said, I recorded to USB2 drives for years without too many problems when Digidesign said it was a no-no. That's okay for hobby work like mine, but for paid sessions I would definitely stay with known stable configurations. From this thread: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?p...12#post1709412 Quote:
