Default anyone still using FW instead of USB on PT9?

I'm wondering whether anyone is still using FW drives on PT9 with windows.

Is there any reason not to use them? I know avid says to use USB now, but do FW drives cause a problem now? I've been using an eSata G-drive with a Siig card, but have a glyph FW drive as well.

Just curious.

Default Re: anyone still using FW instead of USB on PT9?

I tried some playback of a 20 track session from a Firewire drive in PT9 on Windows 7. It worked fine. However, DigiTechSupport has stated that there is a problem with the Firewire stack in Windows 7 that makes it less than optimal for audio drives with PT9. It seems to be fine for audio interfaces though. I haven't done any recording tests to the Firewire drive.

I would generally stay away from things that Avid declares to be a known problem. That said, I recorded to USB2 drives for years without too many problems when Digidesign said it was a no-no. That's okay for hobby work like mine, but for paid sessions I would definitely stay with known stable configurations.
