Default Upgrade question - LE 7.4.2 & LE 8

Been round & round on this.. hopeful that someone here can help --

I'm using a Mac Power PC G5 & recently upgraded to OS 10.5.8

Had been running LE 7.3 but downloaded free upgrade to 7.4.2 for compatibility with OS upgrade.

However, now requires a 7.4 authorization code.

Rather than upgrade to 7.4, I'd prefer to upgrade to 8. However, my current machine won't run it. Still, as I'm going to be upgrading to an Intel based Mac shortly, I'd hate to buy 7.4 just to need to purchase 8 in the very near future.

Does anyone know if LE 8 includes reverse compatible authorization to 7.4.2? I know this was provided for some versions of 7...

As I said, just trying to avoid buying something for very short term use rather than putting that money towards additional plugins.

Authorizations from 8.0 don't work on 7.4.2 and vice-versa. Your G5 should be capable of running PT8, up till the 8.0.1 update. You won't be able to update to 8.0.3 until you upgrade to an Intel based mac.

zodo is correct.
You can purchase the Pro Tools LE 8 upgrade from the online store, which will place downloadable installers in your online account for the following:
Pro Tools 8.0 full installer for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) for PowerPC and Intel-based Macs
Pro Tools 8.0.3 full installer for Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 doe Intel-based Macs

After installng 8.0 on on your G5, then you would download the free update to Pro Tools LE 8.0.1.

When you get an Intel-based Mac, you can install 8.0.3 on that computer. Unless you have an original Mbox, which is not supported with 8.0.3 and higher. All Mbox 2 family, 003 family, and Digi 002 family interfaces are supported with PTLE 8.0.3.

Click on the Updates & Upgrades link (or Compatibility Information, both go to the same page) at the top of the forum, then on the Pro Tools LE for Mac OS X Compatibility & Upgrade Information from that page. Lots of the information you are looking for on that page.
