Default Is IntelMac worth the plug-in upgrade costs?

I did quick look around and I wasn't able to find anything definitive.

In any case, I want to get a new Mac but I am not sure I can afford both a new IntelMac and all of the plug-in upgrades. I am coming from the 867 G4 and I want to increase my plug-in efficiency in 7.1. Does it make sense to get the older PPC G5 and use all my current plug-in versions or pay more for an IntelMac and an additional $800 in upgrades? If my PPC will be obsolete soon, I don't want to be stuck on it. Looking forward to your thoughts.

Which Plug-in upgrades do you need to pay for? I purchased a 002 Rack system in June, purchased a Mac Pro in September and didn't pay for any upgrades other than 7.3.

I'm still waiting on MOTU MachFive and Spectrasonics Atmosphere, but it is my understanding that MachFive 2.0 will be available 7/13/07 for no charge.

I will be on the hook for SampleTank, Auto-Tune, Waves (I may scrap), and VintageWarmer. That's a good chunk of change. I am thinking of buying the DV Toolkit as well for the reverb and beat detective functionality.

The Intel macs absolutly destroy the power PC's, the Macbooks are said to out perform the dual G5 towers. I have a Macbook and it replaced a G5 iMac. The difference is incredible, CPU intense sessions on the G5 barely strike 25% CPU on the Macbook.

Cheers
