Default beige G3 rev 1 motherboard and Digi 001

I'm using a beige G3 mac with pro tools free and I love it. I've saved some money and sold a few things on ebay and am ready to buy the Digi 001. I see that Digidesign does not support my old Gossamer (sic) and that i can expect DAE errors anywhere from one every hour to maybe once a day - which wouldn't be so bad .
I hope to eventually buy a new G4 but I'm anxious to get the 001 before I blow the cash on food and rent (times are tight!) Pro tools free is great but the latency while monitoring is just too extreme. I know I'm limited with a 266 Mhz Beige G3, the question is - will I be able to record 5 minutes of 8 or 10 tracks on my rev 1 motherboard or will the DAE errors really average out to 1 an hour?

Thanks for the info cookachoo...

Maybe I'll just stick with my omni-studio and Logic Delta app even though i like the Digi plugins more than the logic inserts... either that or adjust to the latency with PT free.

cheers.

If you do a search on the DUC regarding this issue, I think you'll find out that there is no way of knowing. Some people are running the 001 right now a Beige G3 and have never seen the aformentioned error.

Others, like myself, have been through the hell that this error instigates. You should know though, I never started recieving the error until I upgraded to version 5.1, version 5 is fine. If you could some how run version 5 until you get your G4, it might be a way to get around it.

My best advice though, save up for the G4 first. I currently have an Audio Media III card with ProTools in my Beige G3. You could probobly get an AM III card/ProTools LE for $50-$100 on Ebay and run it until you get your G4. The AM III is supported on the Beige G3.
