Re: Clip FX GUI not responding

Support got me to test a project will all plugins disabled, but there was no change to behaviour. They hadn’t been able to reproduce. I reported back the thing here that it seems to be related to windows management. Awaiting more developments. Today I had a big exporting stems day. Consistently found that flip/flopping between regular and full screen made the ClipFX bug go, that’s a solid workaround. In all those real time records, I only had one CPU stall, so it’s still quite possible that it is related to the same issue as ClipFX.

This appears to be a bug with many long-reaching tentacles; licensing, graphics, and who knows what else. I'm good for now with the exception of the screen flinches (assuming they are related to the clip FX issue). Glad to hear you have a sort of workaround with windows management

Re: Clip FX GUI not responding
AH-HA!
I think... cautiously... it might be fixed. Bret in support got me to unplug all my monitors except one. I opened the problem project and ClipFX was still frozen. I noticed changing the state of the project window refreshed the UI, but unlike normal it was a one-time thing - normality wasn't restored. Each click refreshed but didn't then unstick. So I went back to my four monitors and now the problem seems to have completely gone. Every problem project opens normally. Also I mentioned that windows weren't opening in their normal positions - well now they are. My old rig appears to be back. Now we know what this bug is like - a tricky blighter. So I won't say case closed yet, but so far so good. Seems like PT got something screwed with displays and monitors, and unplugging all-but-one then putting them back reset itself. EDIT - suddenly panicked that it wouldn't survive a PC power-cycle, but it has.

Just had a humorous thought about Clip FX being confused and could picture Joe Pesci in Casino: "Yer a little kun-fyoozed??? Maybe if I stick your head through that little monitor port you'll get un-kun-fyoozed..."

Re: Clip FX GUI not responding
Update: I've been able to solve the glitchy graphics issue. At a time when I'd tried everything and was at my wit's end, I decided to refresh Windows with an in-place install. It worked. In all fairness, I shouldn't have blamed PT, but no other software on my PC had that problem. In retrospect, I think it was probably caused by a Windows update gone wrong, that didn't affect anything else but rubbed PT the wrong way.
So no more strobe-like flickering and I'm only left with the ClipFX bug, which is now way more manageable with two simple clicks. No longer any need to restart PT. Now it's there when I open a session, and resizing one monitor removes it for the duration that the session is open. Quote:

So what I did: With PT closed, physically unplug the mains and HDMIs from 3 monitors (mains alone isn’t enough). Load PT into the single monitor. Muck about a bit resizing windows. (As described, this scenario was actually worse than with 4 monitors - I couldn’t get the GUI back to normal). Close PT. Plug the other 3 monitors back in. When everything was restored to its normal operating setup, open PT. That was it. Didn’t restart the PC between setups. From that point I’ve had zero issues. I’ll let you know if any gremlins return. Support were as surprised as I that this worked btw - hoping against hope you find some magic combination that works for you too.

A mysterious but close-to-definitive end to an utterly bizarre bug. I think I said this earlier somewhere, but my working hypothesis is that the windows installer / uninstaller is not clearing things up properly and there’s some weird combination of old and new files that is getting the display engine a bit scrambled. Dropping down to one monitor and back seems to jolt it back into life. But of course I don’t really know what I’m talking about…
