Pro Tools 2022.9 "Saving ARA Data"

So has EVERYONE on this thread who is experiencing this logged a case with Avid?

I just read another thread where someone said "I kept thinking it would just get fixed". Well it won't. Avid aren't telepaths.

I’m still trying to find out what causes this. I have sessions where it is an issue and sessions where it is not.

I can’t remember where I saw/heard it, but somewhere it mentioned that if you Melodyne even a small portion of a long clip, it still analyzes the full clip to try to determine key. So I imagine, if you have a scenario where people are recording the full length of the song multiple times and then you comp from 4+ takes like this and then enable Melodyne across the individual clips (not consolidating first), that it would create a ton of Melodyne data to be stored even though the Melodyne data actually being used is only the length of the song.

Still experimenting…

coincidentally, this is what I did today as well and I did not ever get the message, even though I was editing a vocal track using the new ARA method. I had a track. I consolidated it (after comping and editing between phrases), then right click Melodyne->edit. I made a few tuning changes and then Melodyne->render and never once saw the message. and I hit CTRL+S out of habit all the time.

I could live with this if it were truly a workaround. will have to try it again next time.

EDIT: - the other times that I tried the "new" Melodyne was I would right click each clip separately (as I found something needing tuning), and then chose edit and did what was needed. I think after there was "many" clips, that might be what is slowing down the saving (and so you see the message and get the pause/freeze)?

After working days on a session with lots of ARA, eventually it says the ARA files got corrupted. I had almost everything commited and redid the ARA where needed and commited those as well.

This morning it crashes Pro Tools when trying to restore ARA and cant open the session anymore.

So as I had it all commited I got back to 2022.7 and then could work on the session again.

My case was "closed" today because this bug was logged, reproduced, and "Engineering is working on it". While no ETA was mentioned, it would be "soon" because many users have reported it and are involved. Fingers crossed! Thanks APAC community!

Oh no. This is exactly what I'm dreading happening. I've got so many edits open at the moment on different sessions.

A friend of mine reported similar happening in Logic, where he claimed that Melodyne reported that "ARA is not ready for critical work." Or something like that.

+1 here for ARA being super buggy in Logic also. I personally didn't have high hopes for this PT feature considering it never really worked that well in supported DAW's prior to this.

So the data “came back” after restarting the computer, but I’ve got the serious jitters from it now.
