Default How to get the plugin latency metering working

Hi friends

Sorry to ask such a Noob stupid question but I read somewhere here a few months ago about somebody who had a problem with latency in certain PI's and got the advice to check something with latency monitoring and it is located under a channel strip in MiX window. I have turned it on I thought but the metering is just like it is "locked" and nothing happens and nothing is showing. Just the "green" little screens and where it is supposed to show freen/yellow/red there is nothing happening, just some digits but I can't change or do anything to those settings nor to show anything?!. Yes Yes, I know I am wording this like a complete tool but as I can't find what it is called I can only explain where it is located and what it shows

Is there a setting to get that metering showing latency or plugin cpu usage or is it only when you have HDX or Native PCIe card installed?

Many Thanks to all you guys and sorry for such a [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep]ty post wording

PS. What I am looking and asking for looks like this picture up top in the channel but in our mac it is on the bottom under the channel and "make inactive" settings.

Sorry for this but how stupid it may sound we actually only use the basic features of PT10HD after moving back to PT from a 6 yr stint with Logic Pro so many of the features we used in PT6.7HD back in 07 are soo updated and awesome that we have not yet taken time to understand them all.. so do I goto view and then mix and click delay compensation or what does that mean!?

Thank you for helping us out Jonathan, Really nice of you

Chris

As far as I know there is no latency meter per say.
BUT
What some people do to see exactl how much latency theyare experiencing is.

If the plug you want is suppossed to work instantly like say a eq.
Make a aux track, send audio to the aux track with your plug on it,
Then put the aux tracks output to a audio track, now record on that audio track.
When you have your audio with the plugin efx recorded on it. Switch to samples instead of bars beats or minutes seconds.
Now nudge the new track back using samples as your nudge , until both tracks line up perfectly. That is your latency in samples.

But it usually just tells you in the delay comp at the bottom of the mix window. If the plug is on the track and not on a bus

Hi P,B,S,

That is exactly what I mean but how does one turn it on

That delay comp you refer to doesn't work or we have done something wrong!
How do you activate that and do we need any extra settings done for it to display properly?

Thank you for your input and hope one of you know what to do

Hi,

First you turn delay comp on in the playback engine settings!

Then as Chief Technician said, to view the delay comp in the tracks view. Go to... View-mix-delay comp.

Now the delay comp will display at the bottom of each track.

If you just want to see it in the little window under the fader and meter, just hold Command and then click on vol. As you click, it will cycle from vol, to pk, to dly, and then back to vol. Delay compensation doesn't need to be turned on for this.

Is that what you want?

Don't forget, under the Options menu, there is also a spot to turn it on/off
