Default Seeking Sound Design application with PT integration

I want to get into sound design with some app that will rewire or work with PT. Reason looks OK but would have a steep learning curve due to all the synths and samplers. Any suggestions?

It depends what exactly you mean by 'sound design', but if I understand you correctly then you should look into a range of amazing sound mangling RTAS plugins available for Pro Tools, these don't need Rewire, and are fully recallable. Some of these are:
GRM Tools (very easy to use)
NI Reaktor (steep learning curve, but extremely powerful)
NI Absynth (easy to use)
Waves Sound Design bundle (their Gold Bundle will do the trick too!)
Eventide Anthology II Bundle
SoundToys plugins
...
etc
...
Any one of these will provide you with an almost infinite amount of options. But to be honest, you can tweak sounds beyond recognisability with just the built in AudioSuite plugins - PitchShifter, EQIII and D-Verb for example.
Good luck!

+1 for the tools mentioned above

Also you might want to try Ableton Live. You can rewire that in PT easily. Thats pretty cool for creative sound design madness Comes with a 30 day trial if I recall correctly.

You might also consider NI Battery. Yes, it's designed as a drum tool but look a little deeper, it's pretty amazing and has a fairly simple learning curve. John.
