Is there a short cut for this?

Is there a shortcut which places the end of a clip at the playback insertion?

Say I have a video file which starts at first picture of the movie and stops at last frame of the movie.
I prefer black before and after, so I have a video file (5 secs with a color bar w/ bip at 3 sec) which I want to place at the start and end of the movie.

The end black is easily placed by TABing it the end of the movie, and CTRL clicking the black movie file. But for the start black I manually drag it roughly to the start, and I zoom in to frame level and nudge it in place.

try "control-apple(command)" click region

will place tail at insertion

Also, in command focus mode (a..z) h j & k are your friends - though you seem to be talking about spotting video regions rather than audio, I can't say I've ever tried using those shortcuts on video regions.
