Are you installing it from DVD or download? What's the exact error message?

Please don't use msconfig to turn off Services, use the Services in Computer Management under Control Panel to Disable Services. And be careful what you do Disable. Use msconfig to turn off Start Up items.

Cheers,

And if you feel you must go into mscnonfig> services... Hide all microsoft services before you touch anything.

I got the installation dvd and when i put the dvd in the disk drive i get a blank dialog box. So i closed that out i clicked the my computer icon then i right click on the local disk drive c: and i clicked explore and i searched for the set up installer exe file and click that and after about 20 seconds and it says

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error
Program E:/ProToolsLEInstaller/setup.exe
Abnormal Program Termination

I get this visual c ++ error. 9 out of 10 times but this one time i thought i fixed it because pro tools started to load up and started to install but it stopped about half way then it gave me this error code.

5005 : 0x80070017

So i don't know whats going on i need help. I'm getting frustrated because i can't find any solutions to this problem. So if there's anybody out there who can help me i would truly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

You need to download the installer from your My Digi account and install it that way - sounds like your DVD isn't being read properly for some reason.

Thanks cwsand. I contacted digidesign technical support. And they said it's the DVD installation disk. He told me that the disk is not compatible with all disk drives so he emailed me a down loadable install. I loaded it up and everything was fine after that. So to anyone out there who has this same problem with any installation disk wither it's pro tools or a video game or some other software disk on your PC. First you try this test. See if it will work on another computer if you have one. For example. If it might work on your labtop but not your desktop or vice versa. Then the disk is not compatible with your disk drive that's why it may work in some disk drives and not in others if you can some how get a downloaded version threw the company the software is from you should be good to go. So thanks to everyone who posted replies trying to help me out. Thanks again to everyone. I truly appreciate the help. Hopefully this can help some one out in the future who may have this same problem.

I am getting this identical error. Thank you for your suggestion, I am going to try tech support to see if I can get a downloadable version of the software to replace my DVD.

Thanks so much!
