not as far as I know, but what would be the purpose of that. those tabs take up very little space while they're very handy to grab for quickly tuning a clip or doing clip-based eq etc. Instead of the tabs popping up at the bottom -where it actually does take up quite some space at the bottom of the edit window- they can now be opened as a floating window, which is awesome I guess.

I was hoping there would be some videos posted talking about some of these new features. But I can't find anything. If anyone got to see Avid at Namm, I'd be curious to hear what you saw.

Probably because there's nothing all that interesting for AVID to show in Pro Tools right now.

There's at least one reel on their Instagram page today about the MIDI Effects.

truly sad.

But hey, look sibelius!

The reel (not sure if it's linkable) shows Midi instruments will either be as currently, a single VI instance and the instrument track points to that, or as a midi chain where the slots on the strip can have a midi processor, then instrument, then midi controlled FX (on the demo) plus other non midi plugs as normal

Instrument track can select the chain/or single VI. Midi travels in series down the chain. Initially 3 automatable via host midi processor plugs from avid installed by default, plus arp , groove engine and Riffer from 3rd party, come with various protools levels.

Looks promising, personally didn't think we'd see this so thanks.

hopefully there will be a lot of bug squashing of the delay comp timing bug, hung notes, silent VI's and the greyed out instrument selection, or support are going to have a busy time!

And for bugs, my own is the jaw-dropping inablity to drag and drop a file from the clip bin.

It is odd there's not been more videos - usually there's round ups from 3rd parties which preview the coming features, but not seen any. Like many I want to see if the dreaded lower zone can be gone completely with floating windows. It's hard for me to visualise what you're describing about the midi effects, if I saw it I'd get it much easier.

This list of new features I guess might not all make it into 2024.3 (seems like it's official now there's one feature update per quarter). I'd bet most of us would rather a major bug fix release first without all the new shiny.
