Ash.....
I dont think you responded with the version of PT you are on now.... so I cant answer that part.

However, I won’t recommend updating PT just yet since we aren’t getting any officially supported version until a few months from now. If the PT is working, I suggest you stick to his current version and don’t do any further changes to avoid possible issue.

I had mentioned that I was on 2023.9.

I updated to 2023.12.1 and the lag went away and some of the weirdness. I still get the top menu bar disappearing after a while, and intermittent sudden crashes for reasons I can't figure out. BUT the reduced UI lag is making life a lot nicer lol

Sorry Ash - I missed the version reference. Glad it's more stable now.....

Have a good weekend.

The sluggish UI complaint of some people. Fixed in Sonoma 14.3
14.2 fixed a few other of the known issues with Sonoma.

So anyone on Sonoma should update to 14.3.

For me, the only annoying Sonoma issues have to do with Soundflow errors and the Plugin search scrambled characters when pressing quickly

I can concur, 14.3 helped the UI issues.

My current issues are:
- Random crashing (not even the "Send To Avid" pop up appears) - fully terminated PT - and I can't find the action(s) that are triggering it
- Doing clip fades on other tracks while recording will cause a CPU overload (stop recorded and fudge up the clip fade I did)
- Other random actions (e.g. activating/adding a plug-in during playback) will cause CPU overload
- Top menu bar (File, Edit, View, etc) will sometimes disappear and usually only come back if I restart the entire computer

I am in a deep quandary - my sole laptop upgraded itself to Sonoma without asking, and when I went back to Ventura I lost all my entire Music playlists, so are you using and running PT 2023.12 without too many issues? I'm mostly editing and occasionally composing with software instruments so not recording any bands or anything of the sort. Please let me know as I have hit the end of the road as far as fixing my Music library.

I have been using Sonoma 14.3 beta for many months already without much issues. Sure there are always some, which is why Avid keeps compatibility chart updated.

It is a no-brainer to guess next PT release (2024.03 as per Avid's recent update schedule) will support Sonoma.

They've posted that that's the plan and I think that they'll deliver, but as many have noted PT is working quite well without the official blessing from Avid.

I have one system running latest macOS betas and I can confirm this.

What I cannot reproduce here are x86 related problems. Apple has begun to deprecate things and currently three most imortant factors for PT instability are 3rd party plugins, 3rd party plugins and 3rd party plugins in that order. Honorary mention for 3rd party plugins.

I have heard rumors and would not be surprised if macOS 15 would drop x86 and be ARM-only.

KVM users on Sonoma:

I've had consistent problems with my HDMI USB KVM.
The monitor switching is fine.
The Keyboard and mouse are not recognized.
Plugged in directly they do work BTW.

After a deep google dive I found others with similar problems.
One fix is to not use Sonomas animated backgrounds.
Once disabled this has helped some.
Not me.

On the Apple support site I found one reference that stated new Sonoma security enhancements will disable input devices like cameras Keyboards and Mice if they are not recognized as apple compliant.
At this time there is no terminal command to turn this feature off in recovery mode.
There is a terminal command for older USB cameras that you can run to reenable them. I was hoping there was a similar one for KB and Mouse over KVM, but no.

I know there are other tools for using a single KB and Mouse for multiple machines. My little KVM has been great. I'd like it back.

If anyone else finds a work around please share.
