Default MY i7 build parts list- any bad choices?

Hello everyone, I'm hopefully gonna do a custom i7 build for music production next week. I know there's already a thread for this, but it's huge and i'm afraid i won't notice major issues people mentioned.

If you could just look over this quick list of parts i plan to buy, and tell me if anyhing looks bad. Thanks. This is for Pro Tools 9, using alot of VI's

Intel Core i7- 3930k

AS Rock LGA2011 Intel X79 DDR3 CrossFirex SLI SATA3 USB3.0 A GbE ATX Motherboard X79 EXTREME6

ram- HyperX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory HyperX Plug n Play Model KHX16C9P1K2/16 ( i have 2 pairs of these, so 32 gb , :) :) )

cpu fan- Noctua NH-U14S

Case- Rosewill THOR V2 Gaming ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 500GB SSDx4 (one for OS, two for samples using RAID 0, one for Pro Tools sessions)

graphics card- Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti GDDR5-2GB 2xDVI/2xHDMI OC Black Edition Graphics Card GV-N75TWF2BK-2GI

getting power supply from older pc, 1000 watts

(Only comes out to around $2k by the way, in case your anyones thinking of a build)

first off this looks like a great build, but i have a question for you......

do you plan on installing Pro Tools on a seperate SSD drive? if so, this will usually lead to problems with Pro Tools.

OS and programs should be installed on the default c:// drive. samples, VI SOUND LIBRARIES can rest on a seperate drive. plugins and Virtual INSTUMENTS must be installed in the default c:// drive.

I saw that too. Hopefully he means the drive will be used for the Pro Tools session files (Audio Drive)

Also, don't forget to get a power supply with adequate wattage, and some good RAM. You didn't list these 2 items, so maybe you already have them from another build.

Yeah, i meant for the pro tools sessions to be on separate drive. Forgot to post ram, will update it. Thanks

Now that you mention it, does it help to have the pro tools sessions saved on a separate drive?

Yes, ProTools sessions DEFINITELY need to be saved on a separate drive, at least separate from the SYSTEM (C) drive.

I'm trying to understand why you want RAID for your samples drive The rest looks like a serious beast

haha thanks. yeah wanted to do it right the first time. CANT WAIT to get out of my current pc limits.

Well, i want RAID for when I have lots of VI's streaming at once. I figured i might run up against an SSD's limit without RAID, which will go almost twice as fast as one reg SSD.

You're not going to have that problem without Raid.

Just a suggestion, have you considered a motherboard with a more recent chipset, such as the Z87 or Z97? These would give you more future proofing, and would also allow you to upgrade your motherboard to have Thunderbolt.

But SSD's have a transfer rate of about 500 mb i think, so once I'm streaming more than that at once, won't i have issues without RAID?
