Default The Price Of Avid's Port To AAX

Since Avid is going to port all their existing plugins to AAX, is there going to be an additional cost involved to the users? Or is this cost "included" in the price of the Pro Tools 10 upgrade?

I am specifically referring to the plugins that are not included with Pro Tools and that users already have licenses for: such as TL Space, X-Form, Smack, Eleven, and etc...

AAX itself is no extra cost. Whatever 3rd party plugin manufacturers want or need to charge for it is up to them.
All the standard plugins that are free on every pro tools version will remain free on every pro tools version to come. Regardless of wether they are rtas / tdm or aax. And eventually everything will become aax.

Make sense ?

Chris

Also I think there will be some kind of trend of doing these things without additional price. For example McDSP declared that he offers free update to AAX. If I remember well, waves implied that wup will cover the update to AAX. As more and more company will do this for free or for a very small upgrade fee, the rest will follow.

Yes but it really didn't answer the question. I am referring to the paid Avid plugins such as TL Space, Smack, Eleven, Hybrid, etc. Are those Avid plugins that require a paid license to use, going to be ported to AAX at no additional cost to the user?

The 3rd party ports are up to the developers to charge or not to charge; that is well understood.

Seeing what Avid did for Pro Tools 10 Upgrade,
I am not surprised that Avid charges another hundreds of dollars for AAX plug-ins.
If they were free, we would be just lucky.

Imho they shouldn't charge us for the aax upgrade. I know it's huge work, but considering that for example mcdsp will give this update for free, waves wup will cover this, I wouldn't expect them to charge. Of course as usual I can be dead wrong.
But hey, we got the channel strip and moddelay and downmixer plugs now for no additional money (upgrade can include it...). Avid should show us how dedicated they are about this aax thing. Give it for free! hoping....
