Default sound toys (wave mechanics) new plug

Can anyone tell me their thoughts of the new filter freak plugin? I am running logic with protools so I can't run their "r-tas" demo. (I do have protools installed, but I am only familiar with logic). The plugin is available in all the formats, but for their demo it is only available as an rtas plugin. At 250 dollars, I think its priced very well. I listened to the demo mp3's but I wasn't impressed.

It's totally mad! It's a wonderful analog sounding filter which really can do some amazing things. You can drive it about 5 different ways. As well as standard LFO based filtering you can trigger it from the threshold of the sound going into it. This way you can get filthy funk wah basses, guitars, keys, etc.

You can make the resonance so sharp that the thing just whistles (not that this sounds good, but the point just before it whistles can!)

The best thing about it is just the sheer sound quality. It really sounds like an old analog stomp box. Did you say the demo is only RTAS? I use the program as HTDM mainly, though RTAS will of course sound the same.

For creative mixing this is a must have, and those guys have got more stuff coming!

I'm a big fan of the Wave Mechanics stuff. Pitchblender and Soundblender have been good to me. I demoed the new stuff and it's very cool.

Hi Guitarman,

FilterFreak is doing a bunch of audio processing so it can use a fair amount of processing power. Here are a couple of ways to lessen the amount of CPU used.

a: Run the 1-band version when possible
b: With either version use the fewest # of filter poles possible

c: use it in digital mode instead of analog mode (This makes a huge difference)

Have fun with it,

Noah

Hi Noah, I didn't catch whether or not there will be a TDM version in the future? Is a tdm version in the works?

Oh, I forgot to mention that the release plug-in supports HTDM format, (as well as RTAS and AudioSuite), so that it IS useable in TDM.

This is the one to get. -Absolutely slays everything else out there, including the Virus' filter. I especially like the option of digital vs "analog" overload.

Also, this is an on-going project. More features are planned for the near future, as well as some truly incredible new plugins in the Sound Toys line.

Get yer freak on.......

It really looks like a great piece of code. Can't wait to try it.

Although I should add that the Virus filter is not that hard of a dragon to slay as far as external input signal processing goes...

BTW, please make your flanger available guys, it looks just like what I need!

Just thought I'd follow up on this one. Yes, a TDM version is in the works, but so far no release date. We're also not sure if it will support MIX, or just HD as it uses quite a bit of DSP.
