Default adding white noise to a snare

hey guys, maybe someone can help me out with this one:
i'm a new protools user, but I wanna try a techique i saw used
once in school, which is adding white noise to a snare drum.
i set up an aux track, put the noise generator on white noise,
then i'm trying to gate it to the snare, but I was told to use a
sidechain, how do I do this?
