It depends on how much you want to spend- I really doubt you'd get much better results from that Focusrite piece over the M-Audio 1814 you already have.

If you really want better quality try this:

Now THAT is an upgrade that is worth it...

If I only Had 6 Grand!! I wanted to do away with the fostex board and I read that focusrite pres are high quality in my Price range up to $1000.00. Maybe the M-Audio profire 2626 or the Project mix would be a viable solution but thanks for your input, it means a lot.

Are you looking for more inputs or higher quality? (or both)

I just hate to see people spend money to switch horses and end up with an audio interface that is not much better quality than the one they already own... there is so much to the recording chain- the interface is only part of the story...

I am happy with my inputs and im happy with the mic pres on the Digimax but the fostex Mixing board pres can be a little noisy and it takes up a lot of space. I was gathering info to try to make a decision weather I should make a change or not.

I'll ask this. How many channels of I/O do you need? And your budget is appox $1000? Those 2 factors will narrow it down considerably. :)

Your 1814 has ADAT lightpipe inputs, by DigiMax are you referring to the PreSonus DigiMax that you can add to your 1814?

If you really like Focusrite mic pre's you can also just add this:

http://imsproav.com/main/FOCUSROCTOPREMKII.html

to get more inputs into ProTools. Also M-Audio has their own mic pre:

So basically you hook one of these into your 1814 via the ADAT and you have more inputs into Pro Tools.

Sorry busy at work, I am currently using 16 in and that is perfect its just everyone is saying good mic pres mean everything so I was shopping for info, If I am to get another interface it has to have 8 mic pres and ADAT light lipe prefer to have ADAT2 as I record at 88.2 a lot and my digimax FS has 2 ADAT outs but its not critical. I have been averaging around 12 in latly. Is it crucial to have great mic pres?? or is there a lot of hype out there on the subject.
