MIDI question: How to use note split.
I am trying to be able to record my drums on separate tracks. I looked in the manuel and the note split look good, but does anyone how it works. The book is not very clear about it. It says notes copied will appear in the clipboard, then can be pasted to a new track. What is the clipboard? Also does anyone know of a better way of recording seperate drum sounds? Is this something that can be done with Logic?
Thanks Toecat |

Re: MIDI question: How to use note split.
Hi. I had a similar question. I was tying to bring MIDI drums in to Pro Tools and
wanted to reassign where each drum was landing within Pro Tools (ie to different MIDI note numbers). I am triggering a synth (Yamaha S90ES) via protools, but each drum was triggering the wrong sound. The snare drum would trigger a duck call. It seems there is not a way to re-assign the MIDI noted within Protools. You can do it after the MIDI part has been recorded (by selecting all of the snare hits in a session for example), cutting/copying or dragging them to a different MIDI nite within the same MIDI track, or pasting each drum part separately into another MIDI track. You may also be able to program the module/synth/plugin/softwatre based unit that you are triggering with Pro Tools (as I was able to do with the S90). Below is support request to AVID and their response to my question. I hope this helps. Good luck, Maurice Question: Changing the note number that a pad triggers usually occurs with the source (the pad) or the destination the plug-ins or MIDI tone module making the sound. So if it is not possible to change the note number that the pad is sending then you should change the sound assigned to the note number on the S90ES synth. If this is not possible then the workaround is to select all of the notes for that note number on the track in Pro Tools and move them to the note that triggers the sound you want the pad to trigger after the fact. This means you have to listen to the duck sound while recording the performance in real time. Answer: Pro Tools does not automatically channelize drums to 10 but it's likely that your pads are set to send on 10 since it is the channel reserved for drums in the standard MIDI specification. If you can contact Yamaha and find out which of their drum patches are set to use the general MIDI note layout for drums you probably won't need to change any of the note assignments to get useful triggering and playback from your pad/synth combination.
