Default Firewire Extension on 002r?

Would like to know if anyone is successfully running his or her 002r with a longer that Digi recommended firewire cable. I have to get this PC out of my control room, and into a closet but it's going to be about a 40' run. This would be ideal. The only other option is a silent case, or to finish and climate control the storage space adjacent to my studio and run the cables through the wall, which I am not opposed to if anyone can verify that long lengths of firewire are unreliable. My knowledge of firewire and its properties is pretty limited, so any education is very much appreciated.

Thanks
