Default Buffering Interrupt Problem

Problem: This system has been dependable for years. Now when I try to play or record Pro Tools will run for a fraction of a second then stop. Dialogue box -6085 or -6086 (H/W Buffer Size up or down) will come up alternately. Adjustments to Buffer Size do not help.

Fix Attempts: Originally I was using OS X 5.1 and PT LE 8.0.1. I have upgraded to OS X 5.8 and PT LE 8.0.5. The problem remains. I have installed a new firewire cable. I have rebooted everything MANY times.

Nothing seems to help.

System:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac6,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 3 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz

I have tried it both ways. I have a Mercury Elite-AL Pro as an external.

Could be a rogue plugin, even if an out of date plugin is not used in the session it can still cause Pro Tools do this.

Temporarily move all third party plugins out of the plugin folder and relaunch Pro Tools, any joy?
