Default Will PT8 LE use all four cores (Intel Core2Quad Q9550)?

Amazingly I can't seem to find a straight answer to this question. Will PT8 LE not use all four cores in this processor (Intel Core2Quad Q9550)?

32-bit, if that matters.

I booted up PT to check and it only gave me the option of using 1 or 2 as usual.

Thanks for your time.

what version of 8 are you runnin'?? 8? 8.0.1? 8.0.3? 8.0.4? IIRC v8.0 had a bug with the procs. i believe it was fixed in 8.0.1...maybe even need a cs also. can't recall exactly. and to answer your question, yes PTLE does see and use all 4 cores of the Q9550.

I use all 4 with mine. (m-powered) But I know other people on here have the q9550 and never heard any complaints with 8.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm using 8.0.4. I'll have to mess around some more and see if I can get it working.

What exactly is a CS? I've heard it mentioned but the only updates I know of are the 8.0.x updates.

http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...ite=cs+updates

Here is the page. There are no CS updates for 8.0.4 yet, but the CS2 update for 8.0.3 was responsible for fixing the "White Noise Blasts", So they are important when fixing a particular issue. And the straight answer is, Yes PT 8 works with all 4 cores.

Well, under Setup > Playback Engine, it still only gives me the option to use 1 or 2 cores.

Here's a Sandra report of my computer if anyone would be able to help me...

Also, I have Windows 7 Professional. I don't know why it says Ultimate...

I just now noticed that it says there are 2 cores per processor. Under Device Manager it shows two Quad-core processors.. but I only have ONE in my computer. So maybe my computer is seeing it as two for some reason and thus PT can only USE one of these "two" processors? arghhh.

is it possible that you have somehow set PTLE to only use 2 cores...somehow, somewhere?? start PTLE, go to TASK MGR, go to processes, right click on PTLE.exe, choose set affinity, see what is displayed...

Default Re: Will PT8 LE use all four cores (Intel Core2Quad Q9550)?

I'll try that. But did you see what I edited in after posting that?

"I just now noticed that it says there are 2 cores per processor. Under Device Manager it shows two Quad-core processors.. but I only have ONE in my computer. So maybe my computer is seeing it as two for some reason and thus PT can only USE one of these "two" processors? arghhh."

So it may be a problem with the computer not properly seeing that it is a single quadcore, but rather as two quadcores (though it says each one has 2 cores)... ACCORDING to the Sandra report.

EDIT: Under "Set affinity..." on ProToolsLE.exe, here are the options and ALL are checked:
[x] <All Processors>
[x] CPU 0
[x] CPU 1

aahhh...good catch. here is where your problem probably lies...

Computer
Mainboard : EVGA 122-CK-NF68
BIOS : Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 07/11/2007
Bus(es) : ISA X-Bus PCI PCIe IMB USB FireWire/1394 i2c/SMBus

PTLE with Intel procs on mobos with non-Intel chipsets, especially Nvidia, have known to be problematic. maybe there is somethin' in your bios that can be changed

just askin'...but you didn't grab your boot drive from a previously built system, correct? lookin' at your sig, your problems, and then your Sandra has me a bit confused on how exactly you built your current system...
