Default Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard SATA setup

Can some one talk me through setting up a SATA drive on the Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard

I thought I'd got it working but am now getting disc failure messages.

I have one drive connected to the via chip set and I thought set up using the via tool.

Also my digi 002 rack came woth pro tools 6.7. Does this support the SATA drives?

Hello.

#1 I have this board.
#2 I have build other people computers using this board
#3 I have talked to people about setting up this board.

Step by step.

Where are you?

Did you install windows?did you put a floppy in and push f6 to add a scsi driver?

How did you set up your via controller in the bios?

Only one drive?

I need a lot more information.

Please run me down step by step all this, and in a PAINFUL amount of detail so that i can get an accurate picture ofwhere you are and what your problem is.

I need it to help you. If you can't then request denied.

Justin,

I had hoped there was a do this 1, 2, 3 and away you go answer.

Anyway.

I have built several systems over the last 10 years.

This is my first with the K8V Se delux and my first using SATA.

Where am I......... in the UK. But you probably mean where am I with the build.

Ok The computer is mainly up and running.

The system consisits of
1)Asus K8VSE Deluxe
2)AMD Athlon 64 3400
3)512 Mb Corsair XMS, DDR, Reg-PC3200C2PT, Cas 2, Lifetime Warranty (AMD FX51 Compatible) x2
4)ATI Radeon graphics
5)80Gb Western Digital ATA-100 (7200rpm,8MB,8.9ms) - PATA x1 system drive
6)rom drive
7)Samsung SATA drive for the audio

The PATA drive is the system drive ... loaded with XP SP1.

I hope to use the SATA drive for audio

I didn't hit F6 during the install of XP as I'm not using the drive for the system. But I have subsequently installed a driver from the CD-ROM. Unfortunately this was a few weeks ago, I have been waiting for the 002 rack to arrive, and I can't remeber exactly what I did.

In the bios I have disabled the promise controller and have disabled the sata boot rom.

The drive is plugged in to SATA 1. The drive is detected on boot up and shows if I hit the tab key. In this screen none of the options work... I presume because I only have one drive connected and this screen is for setting up a raid array.

The disc shows in my computer and under disc management. I can format it as well. But if I try to write to it or to run scan disc the computer reports a write error.

The drive is a samsung spinpoint SP1614C

Hope you can help, let me know if you need more info.

Regardless, you need the drivers from the web site.

After installing those, go to computer manager>disk management is it there?.

Remember do not make it dynamic. format w/ 32k block size.

You really should go sata on the os drive.

Do you see the drives in the boot sequence when the via controller bios shows up? If not thats an issue.

Justin

K8V Se deluxe.

Why did I type an A so many times????? Must be coz I'm going mad.

Ok I see the drive in the bios I've just downloaded the latest driver and will try that.
BUT, I formated the drive as per the 002's manual with 32k setting.

Have I screwed the drive???
