Weird problem (PC 001, Mac Mix+, PC 1394 drive)
I'm having a really weird problem.
I have an external firewire drive formatted with FAT32. I formatted it this way because it was the only way I could move my sessions back and forth between my PC 001 system and my Mac Mix+ system... the Mac is running PT 5.3 I think, and MacOS 9.3 (?) and I'm not currently planning to upgrade to OS X/6.4 any time soon for a lot of reasons, most of which come down to lost productivity and my annoyance with compulsory OS upgrades. Anyway, I have the firewire drive working as a recording and playback disk on my 001, and when I go out to my studio, I record on my Mac to an internal audio drive, then use the PC firewire drive as a transfer drive so I can take the sessions home and mix there. All's been working fine for many months. Anyway, this morning I mixed some stuff, then left the firewire drive on and connected to my PC. Here's the weird problem. I come home tonight, try to fire up a session, and find a bunch of audio files are missing. So I look through the directory, and ALL of the sessions in that directory have had files or folders renamed somehow. Not all the files, and not all the folders, but a lot of them. The files and folders have been renamed to the 16-bit Windows equivalents. e.g. "med tom_02.wav" is renamed to "MEDTOM~2.WAV"; the "Audio Files" folder renamed to "AUDIOF~1". Things like that. I started going through and relinking all the files manually, but it was a serious drag. I figure I can just get the sessions from my Mac again. But I'm concerned about why it happened, and whether it will happen again. Anyone ever seen anything like this? Can anyone think of a reason it might happen? I'm clueless. |

You may want to run a disk utility on the drive.. you can also relink based on the "Magic ID" rather than the file names.

That's what I've been doing, but it's still a drag. And I still don't have a clue why this would happen. Any ideas about that?

No, I meant the magic ID thing. I haven't run any utilities on the drive except for ScanDisk, which didn't find anything. I'm thinking I'll reformat it and see if that helps.
