Default Pro Tools HD9 Monitor Mode for Vocal Sessions

Hello,

A lot of the engineering work I do involves cutting vocals at a very fast pace. I do a lot of punch-ins, so "Quickpunch" is always on for me. However, when recording artists, they often want to hear playback after each vocal take. The problem is when I play back the record enabled track, I can't hear the input, so I can't hear the artist if they are talking and telling me to stop playback or something.

This is a problem for workflow. Right now my solution is not very efficient: I have (1) the record enabled track in which I record the vocals to, and (2) a listen track which I enable the input monitoring for each time I playback so I can hear the artist in the booth. That way I know exactly what he or she is saying at all times.

So basically, is there a way to monitor the INPUT of the track, as well as the recorded material at the same time without having to switch anything on and off each time?

This is very important as it would make my workflow a lot faster.

Thank You!

The audio track feeds EITHER mic input OR recorded audio, NOT BOTH.

The workaround you have (two separate tracks) is perfect solution for your needs. You can even leave the 2nd track input-enabled while you track, because you're hearing the same thing from the recorded track and the only downside is that the track gets louder because you have two of it -- but you can compensate by lowering the faders.
