Gotcha thanks.

I may just bounce it without that plugin and try it in LUNA where I can utilize all the DSP power I have.

Best to you...

Can't say for sure without actually seeing the circumstance, but any instantaneous change during signal is going to cause a pop/snat/thump. Changes need to be ramped (even by just 10 or 15 msec), or else happen in audio black to be silent. If you can't do either of those then your best bet would be to render that small section (with handles) in audiosuite or as a commit, and then crossfade into/out of the rendered clip.

This problem will be aggravated by sources that have significant amounts of low frequency noise/rumble, or DC offset in the A/D converter, but really, it's just physics.

best,
rich

Have you tried adjustting the Steep Breakpoint Smoothing Time in the preferences? I keep mine at 10msec and haven't had this problem since the preference was added to PT a while back. Screenshot attached.

Hi.

In Preferences - Mixing?
I've never touched it. It's currently set at 0 ms with the Automatch at 250 ms. Do you think this will help? What time setting(s)would you recommend?

Here's the issue I face. The recording was done live in a television studio. I have a separate audio feed from the mixer and there were two cameras on site as well.
When one of the cameramen moved his tripod it caused this loud clang just as the piano was playing the intro to a song. I have identified two frequencies an octave apart that with the correct notch will reduce it immensely without being too noticeable. The spike is less than a second long.

That's the issue I face. I'm absolutely welcome to suggestions and appreciate your time.

Yes, I think it's worth trying. The phenomenon you described is relatively common in Pro Tools without a small buffer. I keep mine at 10 msec these days. A few versions ago it had to be set per session and sometimes I would set it at 15.
