Default high sample rates: can your system handle it?

i've worked happily at 24-bit/44.1k for a few years now, but am considering moving up to 24-bit/88.2k + for various reasons. i need a new Mac to do this, since my 733 G4 chokes on 48k. i'd really appreciate it if anyone would chime in with what sample rate they're working at and on what kind of machine. and any info on how well your system handles the high sample rate would be great as well.

thank you!
