Default CPU Overload

Hi everyone... I need your help

Once again... I have extreme basic knowledge of pro-tools and all things technical, so bow down to your advice.

I have NO plug-ins.
My imac has more than 800gb of free storage.
But I get this following message when I try to record a voice-over session...
"A CPU overload error occurred. If this happens often, try increasing the "H/W Buffer Size" in the Playback Engine Dialog, or removing some plug-ins. (-6106).

Anyone have any idea what this means, or how I can fix it? When it pops up, my recording is stopped. This can happen after 1 or 2 seconds, or as soon as I hit record, or a minute or so into the session... or not at all.

Any broken down, plain English advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Default Re: CPU Overload

Go to:
Setup/Playback Engine

•Change the H/W buffer size to a higher value
•Change Host Processors to a higher value (ex: if your imac is a Core2Duo select both cores or if it is an i7 cpu choose a higher number but leave at least 1 or 2 processors free for other background stuff)
•With the above steps completed, change CPU Limit to 80% (if you have a CPU with more than 2 cores select 99%, but remember to leave at least 1 or 2 processors free, like I mentioned in the second point, if that is possible

Are you trying to record to your ONLY hard drive? You NEED a separate(approved) hard drive for recording(you create and save your sessions on the recording drive).

What OS version and what PT version? Are they compatible? Have you ever repaired permissions?
