Default A Question about Memory

I have a Dual 1.25 G4. I want to add to the 1 GB of memory I already have.

The apple store says my compatible memory is PC2700 SDRAM DDR333

I've noticed that quite a few people have upgraded their memory from Crucial. It seems that I can save over $100 by buying from them. I went through their compatibility process similar to apples. They recommend PC3200 instead of PC2700.

My question is, is the Crucial memory REALLY 100% compatible? Is there a performance difference in PC3200 over PC2700? Should I upgrade ALL of my memory to PC3200?

Is there any reason not to get Crucial memory?

Thanks

Kyle

I believe the G4 can only utilize PC2700, so buying PC3200 would make no performance increase. Also, crucial makes many different "sticks" of DDR ram, some which work, and some that wont, so do your research. If you want to save some cash check out www.ramjet.com, where you can get a gig of memory for about $200, and they guarantee it'll work. Hope that helped.

faster memory will not work any faster than the motherboard can handle; however, buying faster memory will make it more reliable, as the memory chip can surely perform the lower speed. if the price difference is small, go for it.

What do you mean Crucial makes some memory that doesn't work? Is there anyone on here who has tested memory from Crucial? I would like to save some money, but not at the expense of performance. Thanks

Nothing wrong with Crucial RAM, PC3200 will work in a MDD, but if you're adding to what you already have and it's PC2700, I think you'd be best advised to match it.

Your question is a good one; why not post it in the Memory Upgrades forum at MacGurus, doubtless Costa will weigh in and give you chapter and verse about what the best option is. Check out the MacGurus' Store while you're there; 1GB of PC2700 for $196.
