Mac 8Core & PT8HD /10.6.3 ?
I am having no luck with my move over to PT8HD on a 8 Core Nathelem 2.26mHz / 32GB Ram / OS 10.6.3 / PT8.03
#1 - i know that 10.6.3 is not officially supported, but the computer came with that and tech support said that people have used it successfully. Is anyone out there using this setup successfully? #2 - i have done all the support steps for troubleshooting EXCEPT re-installing the OS. The mac is weeks old and only has apple software (+Logic 9) installed. Logic works FANTASTIC, so i'm pretty sure that the OS isn't corrupt. #3 - The RAM checks out fine, so do the drives.(same audio FW800 drive runs fine on my G5 system) #4 - all my plugs are approved versions as per the Digi list. I can open PT, it will run but after few minutes i get a SWOD. I have to force quit, then, if i try to open PT again i get a DAE Error -4. Then if i do a complete shut down of everything (not restart) i can then open PT again. So far i have put 25+ hours into getting this figured out with no luck. I have a G5 with a HD3 system running 7.4 with the same cables & interfaces perfectly which i have reverted to until i can get this working. I am NOT a PT newbie, i have had every version since its inception. I have heard many PT8 horror stories in my fight to get this working, any help would be appreciated!

Re: Mac 8Core & PT8HD /10.6.3 ?
If your drive was formatted on the G5 then you're looking at an APM, not GUID, which is the format type that would happen on the MacPro. Mixing drive formats can cause issues.

Re: Mac 8Core & PT8HD /10.6.3 ?
I'm using 10.6.3 on an older MacPro (Dual quad 2.8), with a Magma Chassis for my HD3 PCIx cards. Works great.

10.6.3 is fine (not officially approved but soon will be). I highly recommend to install everything from scratch. 1. Wipe your drive. 2. Install 10.6. 3. Run the Combo updater to 10.6.3. 4. Install PT. 5. Repair permissions. 6. Startup from another drive and let DiskWarrior check and repair the disk you installed the OS and PT to. 7. Startup from the PT drive and give PT a try with basic PI's only. When done, report back, please. Oliver |

I did a digitest of the cards and they checked out ok..... Oliver, are you implying that Apple installs bogus systems when they ship their computers? I am not sure what will differ when I hit the ok button to install the same thing they installed. Please explain what I would do that would be different? Does everyone who wants to install PT have to wipe their system? Even with a new stock computer? What a [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep]ty trick.

Re: Mac 8Core & PT8HD /10.6.3 ?
Hi PMoshay!
Strange you are writing this. I just moved over to 8 Core intel and did an hardware exchange to PCI express. I also get Spinning wheel/system slowdown/interface timeout/noise burst and when i quit or force quit protools I get DAE error 4 followed by an access violation when I start protools again. Only a power off/on will let me start pro tools again. Restart will not do. This occour on both 10.6.3 and 10.5.8 so it´s not system related. I tried only with the stock plugins too. Digitest reports nothing wrong and my aurora 16 works fine with my old system. My dealer says he will return the whole package to Avid. First I waited 8 weeks to get the cards and now 8 weeks more?? Hope not. It´s back to my rusty old G5 for a while Svein |
