Default Would this be overkill for a Mac system?

Copied directly from Apple's cutomize page...

Summary
• Power Mac G4 Dual 1.25GHz w/167MHz system bus
• 1GB PC2700 DDR SDRAM - 2 DIMMs
• 120GB Ultra ATA drive
• Optical 1 - Apple SuperDrive
• Optical 2 - None
• ATI Radeon 9000 Pro dual-display w/64MB DDR
• Apple Studio Display (17" flat panel)
• iPod - 20GB (Mac)
• Ultra SCSI PCI card & cable adapter
• Apple Pro Speakers
• Apple Pro Keyboard - U.S. English
• Mac OS - U.S. English

Subtotal $4,916.00

Being so used to Wintel machines, this price threw me for a bit of a loop... Can you say WOW! Expensive!

From what I've read at this site, I want to go Mac but...

You don't need a flat LCD monitor. Actually, for about the same money, you'd be better off with two 21" Sony conventional monitors.

You don't need an iPod for Digidesign work.

For most intents and purposes, the dual processor 1 Ghz machine has most of the advantages of the 1.25 ghz machine. If you buy memory from a different vendor, you'll also save money.

You don't want the SCSI card that Apple uses. (Actually, depending on your requirements, you might be fine with internal ATA drives and Firewire drives). If you want to go SCSI, consult Digidesign's compatibility documents.

You certainly don't need the Apple Pro speakers if you're using it with a Digidesign system.

If you purchase either the DP 1.25 Ghz or DP 1 Ghz machine, you'll probably want to add a few internal ATA drives (you can add three more in addition to the system drive it ships with). The WD1200JB (Western Digital with the Jumbo 8 mb cache) is one of the better candidates these days.

Why did you pick the ultimate one??? With alot of stuff you dont need for Pro Tools? Did you compare the parts with a Dell system???
