Default Best way to do this

Ok so my recent set is to run a 1/8 cable from my ibook which is running a pro 53 most likely, into a plug that sums up the signals then i connect that to my art tube pre. That runs directly into my 888/24. Now i think the sound is fairly good but im sure it can be better. i guess my question is what other options do i have of getting the sound out my laptop into my 888 without using the headphone output. can i get a firewire or usb device that will allow my to get a spidf or a quarter inch out. i know i could get any of the mboxs but are there any inexpensive alternatives? hows that transit?

What 'sound' exactly? Is it a file that can just be imported into PT?

ROTFLMAO!!!

I guess what I was trying to say was:

Wouldn't it just be easier to export what ever sound you are trying play from your laptop into Pro Tools?
That would be assuming that you are playing some type of a file in your iBook.
Sure if you want to go and get a Male Stereo Mini to Y to XLR adapter but it would be a lot less trouble if you can convert what ever sound you are talking about into a file and bring it in to Pro Tools.
