Default Re: Wav becomes White Noise, nightmare

Hi,

I had a problem just like this that stemmed from a file created with Audio Hijack. It turned out to be due to the file's header data becoming corrupted.

I was able to fix it buy importing the corrupted file into Audacity as RAW AUDIO but unfortunately that's as much as I remember! I think editing in some way then saving the file re-wrote the header data, or maybe trimming the file in some way by a kilobyte or something weird like that was needed, but after that was done, exporting the result totally fixed it.

I'm sorry I can't recall the exact process, but you could start there and it might just be obvious what to do next, or you might able to find more information about what to do in the Audacity manual or elsewhere.

Good luck!

I've experienced this jarring noise issue in the past when working with a file in Pro Tools that was created by Audio Hijack.

The fix turned out to be changing the way my Import settings were set in the Processing tab of Pro Tools preferences.

After I placed check marks on three settings, the problems with files imported from Audio Hijack went away. These are the three settings:

  • 'Convert Imported " wav" Files to AES31/Broadcast Wave'
  • 'Automatically Copy Files on Import',
  • 'Convert Copied Files to Session Format'

This issue (which, personally, I've only ever experience with Audio Hijack audio being linked to in a Pro Tools session) seems to have been resolved with Pro Tools 2023.3.

Here is a link to a Rogue Amoeba support article on this issue.

Apart from updating Pro Tools, the only "solution" is as Flawn said.

In Pro Tools > preferences > processing > import:

'Convert Imported " wav" Files to AES31/Broadcast Wave'
'Automatically Copy Files on Import',
'Convert Copied Files to Session Format'

In other words:

WHEN IMPORTING AUDIO INTO PRO TOOLS, DO NOT "ADD" FILES THAT WERE CREATED WITH AUDIO HIJACK. MAKE SURE TO "COPY" THEM

This is a nightmare of a bug. I lost days of work with this one.
