Default 2022.9 Zoom bug?

After updating to 2022.9, Using Zoom tool zooms in waaaay to close...to a solid fill view of the track...but only on the top track. Zoom functions as normal on the other tracks.

See attached images...

Anybody else experiencing that?

Double click the zoom button resets zoom view.
Well known problem for a decade.

How are you zooming? I don't have enough info or it is not reproducing.

All the ways I can think to zoom in don't do that unless my mouse moves like a pixel after I use zoom tool to click and then I let go, making a very small selection fill the entire view.

Otherwise, everything seems normal for me, and that above IS what I would expect.

I appreciate the help. It's not what I thought...

What I thought was a ZOOM problem is actually an "imported audio file becomes loud white noise." Only happened to 2 imported WAV files...and I imported 15 or more WAVs. They did play back normally initially but after saving and re-opening session: white noise.

No wonder the zoom in looks like that. If I zoom out, the waveform looks normal but when played is really 0dBfs white noise. Dang. Original file in its original location is corrupted as well. WTH?

Did a search on "imported audio white noise" but didn't get any relevant hits (other than someone experiencing this after importing MP3s).

Putting here to help anyone with this same problem. Not a solution but a Avid knows about it and it's a bona fide PT bug...

Bug PT-271506

importing wav files results in corrupted audio white noise...happened to me when using Rogue Ameboa's Audio Hijack...(which I love for snagging audio from the computer).

Workaround is to COVERT file on import rather than ADDing it to session. You can tick the PT preference box to convert import to the AES-31 standard.

-or-

Use Avid's suggestion "Import audio clip to Pro Tools>>Export audio clip from Pro Tools>>import newly exported audio clip to Pro Tools again."

Hi John,

Thank you for contacting Avid Audio Technical Support.

PT-271506 is a confirmed bug, After importing or dragging certain audio files into Pro Tools the clips turn into just full-scale white noise the next time Pro Tools session is opened.

As of now, the team is already looking into it. We cannot provide a time frame for when will the issue be resolved, although our support already included a workaround for users to move forward: Import audio clip to Pro Tools>>Export audio clip from Pro Tools>>import newly exported audio clip to Pro Tools again.

Manuel, thanks for confirming bug.

I can add that ZOOMing in (with the arrow buttons or keyboard shortcut) can corrupt file to white noise - waveform looks normal but will play back white noise…until saving/closing/re-opening session then it displays full scale waveform.

I mentioned this in my original email but only files that match the bit/sample rate of session get corrupted if ADDed or COPYed to session (and then zoomed in on). If PT needs to CONVERT file (for 16/441 file to conform to 24/48 session or if same bit/sample rate file has an “illegal” character like “/“ and PT needs to convert)…audio stays intact.

Hope I’ve provided more pieces to the puzzle. I can work around until you find solution.

Thanks,

-- John
