can't use masterlist or jam with my burner

hey all...

well i know some of you will probably tell me to post in the "masterlist" forum but i wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions. i have a yamaha 8424 cdr-w and can't get masterlist OR jam to recognise my burner. i'm so bummed. i've tried everything i can think of... at this point i'm assuming it just isn't a recognised burner but i thought i'd take a chance and ask. i bought this particular model after reading about it from someone here (i can't remember who) so i'm just HOPING someone will be able to help... or at least confirm my fears!!!

i was considering just swaping my cdr-w for a digi approved unit, but clubmac (where i bought it) doesn't offer any other burner but this one. oh well... thanks in advance!

Buy Emagic's WaveBurner which does have support for the Yamaha 8424S.

I should note that I bought an 8424SZ and installed it internally in my 9600 and it would cause Pro Tools (TDM) to hang during playback -- Yamaha informed me that the 8424 is incompatible with FWB Tools and some OS9 extensions... I took it back and bought a Plextor 12x instead which has no support with any software except Toast and Retrospect but at least Pro Tools still works and I can always use my old Yamaha 100II to burn audio CDRs at 4x.

I really don't know if this would help or not, but here it goes. I have a firewire drive the supports toast. I don't know if it will support jam or masterlink, but there is something I noticed. If I turn on the drive after the computer has booted, the software will not see the drive. If I turn on the drive before I boot the computer the software will see the drive. I don't know if what your setup is, but sometimes it could be something so simple.

You need the Jam patch to get it to recognize the drive. Glyph something .com has it and many other good patches and the Adaptec site has it. I am using the Yamaha 8424 external with Jam 2.5. It works. I have a Adaptec 2930 card.

MasterList CD does not yet support the Yamaha 8424 burner. Therefore, you will need to get another burner to use MLCD. In the meantime, check with Adaptec on their compatiblity with the 8424.
