Default offline bounce question

I'm gong to be upgrading to pro tools 11 soon and I am wondering if the offline bounce is better than than the regular bounce in terms of quality than pro tools 9? I sometimes have problems where the bounce sounds lower even when I play the final bounce in pro tools. I have always printed to track then exported the mix that way. Does the offline bounce get rid of the volume problems? I've also experienced certain effects not being bounced even though the right output is set.

Hi,

There should be no difference! If your real time bounces are sounding lower in volume then you must have a routing or gain structure set wrong somewhere in your mix output chain.

If I have something set wrong why is it perfectly when I print my whole mix to a stereo track?

Doesn't add up that why I said you would have to describe your complete setup

Because anything including automation on the master bus could be the reason

For me, there has never been a sound quality change between a straight Bounce to Disk, or bussing to a new audio track. Avid's addition of a fast bounce was/is based on the result sounding identical to a real-time bounce. IOW, they worked it until the 2 versions would null 100% if added together with 1 version polarity reversed.

FWIW, I always bounce at the same sample rate/bit depth of the session, and almost always with no inserts on the master track(mastering is a separate step and I treat it as such). Of course, if you need hardware as part of your mix, then you are stuck with real-time bounce(or bus to new track).

I guarantee the problem is how something is set up somewhere. I have made the mistakes myself. Assuming everything is set up correctly, the bounces should be perfect.

But regarding PT11, they elaborated on this during the Q&A section. Long story short, they went out of their way to ensure that the faster than real time bounces were exactly the same as the real time bounces, and they did null tests to make sure it would.

Yep, heat is HDX only in 11 but is included in offline bouncing due to it having a native ability during offline bounce

Which still begs the question that many people have been asking ... if Heat works natively faster than real time during an offline bounce, how come it is dependent on hardware to run in real time?

Supplementary question is, of course ... Is there a genuine technical reason for this, or is it simply a marketing strategy to designate it a premium option available only to HDX customers?

Wouldn't we all like to know!
