Anyone using Apogee AD-DA16X's with HDX...?

Trying to get a new HDX rig setup, and before I tear my hair out anymore trying to get my AD-DA16X's with X-HD cards (Firwmware 3.0) running with it, I thought I would just see if anyone out there is doing this, or has successfully done it in the past? I think it's supposed to work, but I'm having a helluva time.

My Pro Tools / HDX will "see" the Apogees as 16-channels of HD I/O in Hardware Setup no matter where they are - plugged into HDX Primary or Secondary port, or into the Expansion port of an HD I/O. BUT - the Apogees themselves will not "see" HDX / Pro Tools unless they are on the Primary port of the HDX card. Any other ports result in gobbeldy gook on the displays, and no input or output. And even when they are on the Primary port of the HDX card, locked to internal sync, I get weird clocking clicks and pops or dropouts. These occur even if I slave Pro Tools/Apogees to an external Lucid wordclock. FWIW, these Apogees have worked flawlessly for many years on my HD2 Accel rig. I did a hard reset of them, and still no go. Thoughts welcome, thanks!
