Input Only Monitoring problem? - microphone feedback when no tracks are armed?

in PT9 - this only happens on certain sessions -
Let's say i have a microphone nearby plugged into the digi 002/003,..
NO tracks are armed.. I'm not even recording - just opened a session and playing back a song.. I press play, turn it up, and I'm getting a squeal/feedback from the microphone in the room - but again nothing is armed.. I/O monitoring is ON - yes, .. and the mic signal is live and loud coming through my speakers the moment the session is open - regardless if I'm playing a song or not.. it's just mic feedback.. nothing armed.

so I figure - I'll switch I/O monitoring to OFF - .. now the mic isn't live, no feedback during playback of a song.. but the moment I press stop on the song.. SQUEEEEAL.. loud mic feedback from the in room microphone..

Normally I just unplug the mic from the input of the digi to fix this.. but is this normal? am I missing something.. why only in certain sessions? what's causing it?

Sounds like you have an AUX track that is using the same input the mic is plugged into. Or maybe you need an update(9.0.3 was my favorite version from all the PT9 variants). Or maybe trashing prefs and database files is worth a try as that fixes many "odd" behavior(and this sounds odd to me), especially if this problem happens with all sessions and just started happening.
