Default PowerBook Success!

PowerBook Success!

I am happy to report that finally my system is working how it should! Panther is a HUGE improvement over Jag and ProTools 6.2.2 works like a dream (compared to my previous combo of Jaguar and PT 6.1). I am really having a blast...finally.

My System:

Ti PowerBook 667 MHz, 768 RAM
External 15 Inch Flat screen
OS Panther (10.3.1)
002r
Several demanding plugins

Yeee Haw!

Hey PS what are you getting for track/plugin count.I tried running MBox 6.1 PB1gig1024 ram 10.2.8 and kept getting a holdoff error message with just ONE track.
Thanks,mz

Default Re: PowerBook Success!

can you please be more specific?

i'm REALLY interested in your results since i myself also have a 667mhz powerbook (the dvi one) and a 002r (that has a presonus digimax lt attached to it). my book has a gig of ram and a 7200rpm internal hard drive, but results should be more dependant of the cpu power.

my experience with 10.2.8/6.1.2 combo has been a little less than satisfactory. i have been able to record three-hour live sessions (that's my benchmark; i need to always be able to do that) stressing the system with 10 audio tracks and 4 stereo busses on average. i use waves renaissance and pspaudioware delaypack plugs. the system is stable having cpu load way over 75%, but at that load meters will not be real-time anymore, which is annoying.

(i would want to use at least 16 audio tracks and few more busses since i'm needing two mono outputs in addition to the main stereo out; however, i guess i need to wait for the upcoming 2ghz G5 powerbook for that)

i have been waiting for the panther release anticipating a performance boost, but now that it's out, i wonder if i should wait a little longer because my current system is stable. your experience would be helpful to know; what kind of performance & stability you had in jaguar, and what kind of numbers you get in panther? be as specific as you can, please.
