Thanks sphereman! This certainly makes my decision to go with the Rosetta 800.

BTW are you on a MIX or HD system?

Thanks again for your help.

Audio Images San Francisco. The 96K with PT Mix card was quoted at $2,671. Look for Ron Timmons (415) 957-9131. Say I recommended you.

Hi Dennis,

Absolutely blown away by the Rosetta. Not surprising really though as I was using 2 ADATs and a 20 bit 882 with a MOTU midi timepiece. I particularly noticed a large difference in the stereo imaging because of the clocking of the 800. Also tighter low end and an extremely smooth top end. I have to clock through lightpipe at the moment with the ADAT bridge because there is only a standard wordclock output. However, the direct card has a 256 superclock output when it arrives to clock my other digidesign hardware. Even the 882 benefits from the Apogee clocking.

The 800 has transformed my Mix+ system. The only problem now is I really fancy a Big Ben as well! Also buying Apogee in the UK can be a bit of a rip-off. I eventually got it for £1,900 from Mediaspec, but was quoted around £2,400 by some places.

To Sphereman and Thin Ice . . . I have a bunch of aging Mix Plus systems that have the original 16-bit 888s. Would like to know if the Rosetta 800 Mix Pack upgrade you had was a big improvement on the sound over whatever interface you were using before.

Wanted to go to an HD1 96 I/O upgrade . . . but if the Rosetta is enough, it would sure save me a lot of $$$. My dealer quoted me $2,600+ for the 96K Rosetta 800 and a Mix card. That is more than half the $6000 I would need to cough up for the HD upgrade.

I do television commercials . . . so I rarely go beyond 48K and 24 tracks. My Mix+ are fine now. They just sound sterile with the older 888s. The 96I/O of Digi seemed like a solution for a while. But now the Rosetta seems to change all that.

Also with sync issues . . . how will the Rosetta sync to say a USD?

Any suggestions and ideas appreciated!
The jump from a 888/24 to a PSX 100 was huge for me. Those 888/16's are crap. And the new Rosetta is supposed to blow away my PSX. The jump in quality for you will be like a Mackie to an SSL. Good Luck

As far as Apogee coming out with new convertors, who cares. Your convertors will always sound as good as the day you buy them.

This is exactly what I have been waiting for! I had been holding off upgrading to HD because I was not willing to give up my Apogees. I was even starting to consider going native with Logic and a G5. I have heard the Rosetta 800 and it is amazing. Now, I can get HD and the Rosetta 800s and be happy.

Thank you Apogee and Digidesign.
