Default 7.1 setup with 6 surround monitors

Dear community,

I got a good price on two more 8320 surrounds making it a total of six surrounds now. I am planning to move to 7.1 with this setup. But is it possible to have four side surrounds and just two rear surrounds? I think my Crown CTI 8150 can support this (4ch to 8ch routing). Volume could be adjusted via my monitor controller. My room measurements do not allow four rear surrounds as this would be too narrow. Any suggestions or advice?

With 6 satellites, I would mono sum sends of the middle surrounds and just use one speaker there while waiting for the last piece of the puzzle

I thought the Crown CT 8150A was a power amp? You won't need it with active speakers like the 8320As.

You can have a many side and rear speakers as you like, but they are usually dictated by the room size and purpose more than anything else. The smaller the room, the more likely you are to hear a phantom center between the two speakers running on the same side channel regardless of where you sit in the room.

Took me a moment too because the OP left out the maker.
OP is talking the JBL 8320 and not the Genelec 8320A

I would say to the OP, there's a good chance your extra side surrounds will make things sound worse. If your room isn't big enough for their positioning correctly (due to dispersion), you are going to hear comb filtering caused by them.

Ha! Well, that makes way more sense. Apologies. As you were.

the 8320 are passive speakers. You need amplification to run them

There is no such thing as "the 8320", you need to mention brand. Genelec 8320 is active, JBL 8320 is passive.
