Default Control external midi devices from Protools

Hi folks

So, I'm trying to get a grip on how to control external midi devices from Protools using Program change.

More spesific I'm trying to change patches in an Fractal Audio AxeFX.

Anyone want to enlighten me with some starting tips? I've read what's in the manual, but I'm not sure I'm getting any wiser :)

Default Re: Control external midi devices from Protools

2 Scenarios:

Your AxeFx is configured in AMS(mac) or MSS(windoze) with a midnam file
Create a MIDI track

Set it's output to the AxeFx and choose the channel the Axe will respond to

Make sure the Program change automation lane is enabled and visible

Select the pencil tool and click in the automation lane where you want a program change to occur

In the program patch name list that pops up, select which bank and program/patch you want the AxeFx to change to.
Your AxeFx is NOT configured in AMS(mac) or MSS (windoze)
Create a MIDI track

Set it's output to the physical MIDI port to which the AxeFx is connected and choose the channel that the Axe is set to respond to

Make sure the Program change automation lane is enabled and visible

Select the pencil tool and click in the automation lane where you want a program change to occur

In the program patch name list that pops up, select the program number and bank number that you want the Axe to change to. The list of actual patch names will not show up unless you have a midnam file for the device. I have no idea if there are midnam files out there for an AxeFx.
Note that you can add any other MIDI control change automation lanes that you might want to use...
